GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Memorial services Wednesday for a man who disappeared while swimming in Lake Michigan last weekend and is presumed dead.
Authorities have resumed their search for 47-year-old John English from Walker. He was boating with friends Sunday near Ferrysburg and went for a swim. Witnesses said he was not wearing a life jacket, became distressed, struggled and then went under the water before he could reach ropes and a life ring thrown to him. He is believed to have drowned.
A visitation service was held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday for English at St. Alphonsus Parish, 205 Carrier St. NE, in Grand Rapids.
A funeral immediately followed and then a celebration of his life will be at Fifth Street Hall at the corner of Fifth Street and Davis Avenue NW in Grand Rapids.
English's family will have a private funeral once his body is found.
