GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A man celebrating his 21st birthday was critically injured after falling or jumping down a flight of stairs at The B.O.B. early Sunday.
Tylor Usher, of Dorr, dropped 30 feet sometime after 2 a.m., according to Grand Rapids police and Usher's family.
Whether he jumped or fell has not been confirmed.
He had been drinking, one of his family members added. He was celebrating his birthday with a group of friends.
Usher, a Wayland High graduate, was transported to Saint Mary's Hospital by ambulance. As of Sunday night, he still was listed in critical condition. Usher is in a coma and underwent surgery this morning, family members told 24 Hour News 8. They said he had a blood clot on his head.
Sunday marked Usher's 21st birthday.
24 Hour News 8 contacted The B.O.B. for more information on what the general manager called an accident.
Although alcohol has not been confirmed as the reason for Usher's fall, The B.O.B. does not allow people in the bar to be over-served, GM Kim Lemmen said. In addition, 14 security guards were on duty for the Saturday night/early Sunday morning shift.
Usher was racing a friend down the stairwell and decided to jump over the railing, she said.
UPDATE 5/19/2013: 24 Hour News 8 recently obtained information from an attorney representing Tylor Usher's family. The attorney says that Usher fell in the emergency stairwell, not the main stairwell as previously reported.
