GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A man is in critical condition after getting into a fight at Heartside Park Sunday evening.
Grand Rapids police responded just before 7 p.m. to the park at 301 Ionia Ave. SW and found an unconscious man bleeding from the head.
Witnesses told police the victim was arguing with a former girlfriend in the park. During the argument, two other people approached the victim and told him to leave his former girlfriend alone.
The victim started arguing with them. One of the two strangers hit the victim in the head and the victim fell down, police said.
The suspect then fled the area.
The victim was taken to a Grand Rapids hospital. It is unknown if his closed head injury was caused by the punch from the suspect or hitting the ground after the fall.
Police are looking for the suspect who hit the victim. He is described as a black male, 40 to 45 years old, about 6 feet tall, and wearing a brown, button-up shirt and blue shorts at the time.
