GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Grand Rapids police are investigating a Grand Rapids Catholic Schools employee who allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Friday evening, 24 Hour News 8 obtained a copy of a letter sent home to parents of children in district, saying the female employee in question, who was an auxiliary academic support staff member at Catholic Central High School and West Catholic High School, had been fired following the allegations.
Grand Rapids Catholic Schools Superintendent David Faber released the following statement on the situation to the media on Friday evening:
"On April 26, the Grand Rapids Catholic Secondary Schools terminated the employment of a member of our academic support staff because of allegations that she engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a student. The Grand Rapids Police Department is investigating the matter, and we are cooperating fully with their investigation. Out of respect for the integrity of the police investigation, we will not provide any more details at this time. As always, we encourage anyone to immediately report any behaviors or situations that make them feel uncomfortable or cause them to have concern. I ask you to pray for peace and healing for all in our school community."
24 Hour News 8 spoke with a parent who didn't want to be identified, but said her daughter was a senior who attends West Catholic. She the situation worried her, even though her daughter never had any contact with the former staffer.
"I understand that it's difficult to identify people that might have a tendency to do this sort of thing, but at the same time, paying the tuition that we have over the last four years, it's really disappointing," she said."
