GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The Grand Rapids Board of Education is accepting applications to fill a seat about to be vacated by a resigning board member.
Board member Senita Lenear, who previously served as board president, announced on June 3 that she would resign. Her last day will be June 30. Lenear said she is resigning to run for the 3rd Ward City Commission seat.
In accordance with board bylaws, the vacancy will be filled within 30 days from the effective date of a resignation. The deadline for applications is July 3 at noon. The board will vote to fill the position July 15.
Applicants should submit a resume and a letter of intent explaining why they want the position, their qualifications and experience with GRPS or public education, according to GRPS. Applicants must be an U.S. citizens, be registered to vote and live in the GRPS district.
The board will hold a special work session on July 8 at 4:30 p.m. to decide which applicants will be interviewed, what questions will be asked, and what criteria will be used to determine the most qualified candidate.
The new member will be sworn in on Monday, Aug. 5.
