GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A skateboarder suffered multiple injuries after falling six stories from the roof of a Grand Rapids Community College parking ramp in the early hours of Tuesday.
Joshua Krystiniak is recovering from a broken ankle, a broken leg, a broken back, a punctured lung, serious internal bleeding and various cuts and bruises after the fall sometime before 4 a.m.
He was skateboarding on Level 6 of the GRCC Ramp #1, between Lyon and Fountain, when he hit a rock and fell into a courtyard onto dirt and woodchips.
Krystiniak was able to call 911 himself, and emergency personnel responded quickly.
He told police he didn't remember the fall, and thought he had been on the second level. But police found his skateboard on the sixth level.
"I was skateboarding, I hit a rock and the next thing I knew I was on the ground," he's quoted in the police report.
GRCC officials said after-hours skateboarders is an ongoing issue.
He is the brother of Jonathan Krystiniak, who died on Jan. 23, 2008 after being beaten outside of a downtown Grand Rapids bar.
