GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Family, friends, and the Grand Rapids community said goodbye to a woman who worked to make a difference for West Michigan families Saturday morning.
Leona Spencer was laid to rest Saturday morning. Spencer died one week ago of natural causes. She was 86-years-old.
Spencer's funeral were held at the First Community A.M.E Church in Grand Rapids.
Spencer started her career as a social worker, but she was known for her passion as a community activist.
According to her Alma mater, Grand Valley State University, Spencer was presented with more than 60 local, state, national and international awards for her community work.
Spencer also received recognition from various Michigan governors and Michigan representatives.
