GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A Grand Rapids man has pleaded guilty to shaking his newborn baby in October 2011.
Michael Suchodolski pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree child abuse and one count of attempted child abuse on March 28.
Another count of first-degree child abuse was dropped in exchange for the guilty plea.
Police said Suchodolski shook the baby girl, Karmen Johnson, when she was 17 days old. When he realized she was injured, he took her to the hospital. She suffered brain damage, but survived.
Suchodolski was sentenced April 24 to 5 to 15 years in prison for the child abuse and 2.5 to 5 years for the attempted child abuse.
The sentences will run concurrently. Suchodolski was given credit for 195 days served.
Police are investigating a report of a home invasion, but say there are inconsistencies.
