GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A West Michigan man accused of fleeing the scene of a crash that left his 22-year-old passenger dead entered a plea the day he was supposed to go on trial.
Calvin Liptrot Jr. pleaded no contest Monday to operating while intoxicated causing death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.
Michelle Caverley of Grand Rapids was thrown from a minivan in December after it struck a tree. Driver Liptrot ran away, leaving Caverley at the scene. She died at a local hospital. He was soon arrested.
Liptrot will be sentenced July 8.
