GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A woman was seriously injured early Wednesday morning when she was hit by a garbage truck on an overpass in Grand Rapids.
The incident occurred around 4:20 a.m. on Burton Street above U.S. 131.
A 50-year-old woman was crossing at an intersection on the overpass when a privately owned garbage truck turned and hit her, according to Sgt. Allen Noles with the Grand Rapids Police Department.
The woman was taken to Saint Mary's Hospital, police told 24 Hour News 8. She is listed in critical condition.
Noles said that weather conditions and visibility were a factor in the accident. The driver of the garbage truck was found to be at fault.
The overpass was closed until 8 a.m. while police investigated, and the closure affected access to some on-ramps.
