GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A 14-year-old pleaded guilty to raping a GVSU student after she got off a bus on the southwest side of Grand Rapids in September.
Marco Vazquez, who will turn 15 in January, also admitted being an accessory after the fact.
Felipe Lopez-Velasquez was charged in September with three counts of first-degree sexual assault and a charge of unarmed robbery in the Sept. 10 sexual assault, which happened in the area of Valley Avenue and West Fulton Street.
In a sworn affidavit in September, a Grand Rapids detective said that a composite sketch led to tips that identified Lopez-Velasquez. He said that the 21-year-old victim and a witness picked him out of a police line-up.
Then, the detective said, Lopez-Velasquez confessed.
The affidavit did not address the allegations against the 14-year-old Vazquez.
The attack was reported about 9 p.m.
Vazquez was charged with one count of first-degree sexual assault and unarmed robbery. Though he will be treated as an adult, his cases were handled through the Family Division of Circuit Court.
As part of his plea deal, Vazquez will be incarcerated and then be on probation until he's 19. However, if he does not meet the requirement, the judge has the option of sending him to prison. He will also have to register as a sex offender.
He will be sentenced within two months.
