PRAIRIEVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - One person died after fleeing from police, crashing and being ejected from the vehicle in Barry County Thursday night.
The incident happened just after 10 p.m. at Doster Road and Four Mile Road in Prairieville Township.
According to a Barry County sheriff's deputy, a Prairieville Township police officer tried to pull over a car for an unknown traffic violation, and the driver fled the scene. That driver, identified as Charles Sedrick Lumbard, crashed his car shortly thereafter.
Lumbard was not wearing a seat belt, and was partially ejected through the removable top of the vehicle. He was then crushed by the vehicle when it rolled over, according to a news release.
Lumbard, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene, and police believe speed was a factor.
The Barry County Sheriff's Department is now the lead agency in the investigation.
