OTSEGO, Mich. (WOOD) - A 29-year-old man was killed in an industrial accident at a landscaping plant Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities were at the Kalamazoo Landscape Renewed Earth Processing yard on River Street in Otsego for several hours investigating.
The victim is Matthew McKee of Allegan, according to the Otsego Police Department.
McKee's arm and torso became caught in one of the large belts and rollers of an earth processing machine, police said. He was removed from the machine, police said, but was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other employees witnessed the incident, police said.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
"All of us are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and co-worker, Matt McKee. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this most difficult time," said President of Renewed Earth James Glas in a Wednesday release.
The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) is investigating the incident, as it does in most industrial accident cases.
24 Hour News 8 did not find any major violations in the company's history with MIOSHA.
Renewed Earth is a landscape supply company that makes blended soils and bark products for commercial landscaping and greenhouses, according to the company's website.
