Fire destroys trailer repair business

24 Hour News 8 web staff - CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) -- A trailer repair facility is a total loss after a fire broke out Thursday near the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

The fire happened shortly after 3 p.m. at Midwest Trailer Repair located at 5015 52nd Street SE near Patterson Avenue SE in Cascade Township, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators say an employee used a blow torch to cut a steel beam on a semi-trailer that was being repaired inside the building. The semi-trailer caught fire which spread throughout the building.

All of the employees were evacuated and there were no reports of injuries.

Authorities say the building is a total loss.

The Kent County Sheriff's Department, Cascade Fire Department, Caledonia Township Fire Department and Kentwood Fire Department responded to the fire.
