Expansion at poultry farm in Ionia Co. to create 50 jobs

24 Hour News 8 web staff - IONIA, Mich. (WOOD) -- A poultry farm based in Ionia County announced a major expansion which is expected to create 50 new jobs locally and $43 million in capital investment.

Herbruck's Poultry Ranch, Inc. has plans to significantly expand its organic and cage-free production facilities to meet increased market demand. In doing so, they will add new egg-laying and pullet growing capacity.

This latest expansion builds on a previous announcement made in 2014 when Herbruck's released plans for a $33 million expansion, including the investment of $1.5 million in a new, public main sewer line tied directly to the Lakewood system.

Along with the sewer line expansions, major upgrades must be made at the Lakewood Waste Water Authority in Lake Odessa before Herbruck's can expand. Herbruck's is currently working with Lake Odessa and the Lakewood Waste Water Authority on upgrade plans.

The Ionia County Economic Alliance (ICEA) and the Right Place, in partnership with The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), are helping make Herbruck's expansion possible.

The MEDC is supporting the expansion and investment through the Michigan Business Development Program. An existing performance-based grant approved for the company in 2014 will be modified, increasing the total grant from $500,000 to $750,000.
