GRPD seek suspect in deadly shooting; victim ID'd

24 Hour News 8 web staff - GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) -- Grand Rapids police are investigating after a man was killed in a shooting on the city's southeast side early Friday morning.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Eastern Avenue SE and Dickinson Street SE, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department.

When police arrived on scene, they found a man who had been shot. The victim, 21-year-old Asonte Koppenhoffer-Smart, was taken to the hospital where he later died from injuries, the release said.

Investigators believe the victim was inside a car when he was shot.

The deadly shooting remains under investigation while police work to get a description of the suspect.
