Grand Rapids launches online payment app

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) -- The City of Grand Rapids announced Thursday the release of an app to make transactions with the city easier for its residents.

The app, grpayit, allows customers to link their water, refuse and property tax accounts in a single sign-on process. Users can pay, manage and receive notifications about each of those accounts, as well as pay parking tickets in the app.

The app will send notifications for new bills and reminders when due dates approach.

"We want you to pay before it becomes a penalty or interest added to it. We want to help you comply and get that money to us. We don't want to charge you extra fees. So we've really developed really in the mind of the customer: So how is this going to help you?" Grand Rapids Treasurer John Globensky said. "I have seen people standing in line on smartphones, waiting in line. We don't want you to come to City Hall. We'd like to be able to do this wherever and whenever you want to."

It will be available for download on iTunes and Google Play in the next few weeks, but it can already be accessed online at www.grandrapidsmi.gov/Payments.

If you don't want to use the app, you can still pay your bills in person.
