A Love Story by Fate I'm engaged to a beautiful, intelligent, caring, hilarious (I could fire off amorous adjectives for years) young woman named Megan Elizabeth Turner. Megan and I met by chance. And by chance, I mean by fate. Even though neither of us like to admit it, we were first introduced through the world of online dating. It wasn't as though we were matched by some .com or found our harmony through E-…it was all fate. While I was living in Mount Pleasant, I realized I needed to find an avenue to meet new people. Thus, I signed up for a free dating site. Megan found her way to the same website through a series of life events that included a less than stellar relationship and some gentlemen who tried dating her but didn't quite meet her standard of excellence. Both Megan and I went on a few dates through this site, but neither of us found another human being worth paying much attention to. And here is where fate intervened. I was about to close my online dating account down because I was only a few months away from finishing my MBA and moving to Minnesota to be near my immediate family. Megan, bored with lackluster results within her dating pool, changed her search parameters to include a wider geographic area. It probably helped that she did so just days after I turned 27, the age minimum on her search. She stumbled upon my profile, which was literally days away from being deleted, and sent an email that was based upon a movie (The Hangover) which we both found amusing. Over the course of a few weeks, we exchanged a few emails and text messages, careful not to give away too much. After some mutual technological posturing, we decided to get together for a date on Oct 23, 2010. I remember she wore a black sweater and jeans and was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. We went to a haunted house and then out for a couple drinks. When our date came to an end, we gave each other a hug and I walked back to my car. To this day, I can very clearly remember the thought that played through my head as I got into my car: "I just met the girl I am going to marry". She and I have now settled into real life together in Grand Rapids. There is nothing even close to normal that can describe my relationship with Megan. We have a love story that was never supposed to happen, at least in terms of what I ever imagined was possible but fate intervened. Every single second that I spend with her is perfect to me. We both hope fate will once again intervene in our lives in the form of winning our dream wedding – which would be the sweet icing on our cake of love.
