BOGOTA, Colombia (NBC/APTN) - A Canadian citizen was arrested at Bogota's International Airport this week for allegedly trying to smuggle two kilos of cocaine out of Colombia hidden in a fake pregnancy stomach.
Authorities said Tabitha Leah Ritchie, 28, was preparing to board a plane to Toronto when a Customs officer noticed the belly was unusually hard and cold.
She arrived in Colombia from Toronto on Aug. 6.
The deputy director of Colombia's Anti-Narcotic Police Department said it was the first time authorities had seen that suspected method of transporting drugs.
He said the false belly was made of latex and taped to Ritchie's body.
Authorities provided video of a police officer removing the belly and revealing alleged packages of cocaine.
A woman from Mount Pleasant died after her SUV crashed on a road in Montcalm County.
Mirror parts found at the scene indicate it may be a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander.
An observation survey was conducted by the Wayne State University Transportation Research Group.
