GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - While most families are thinking about the end of the school year right now, there are some out there who are thinking about the school year that starts next fall. Specifically, thinking about having new clothing and shoes for their children. Thankfully, In the Image, is working hard to put brand new shoes on the feet of kids who need them most. 13,000 Grand Rapids area students are on track to get new shoes from In The Image for the 2013-2014 school year, as part of their SHOES program
For the past 16 years, In the Image has helped students start the school year on the right foot. Unfortunately, they've found some students are facing barriers getting to their location to get the shoes. Members of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Grand Rapids have generously decided to sponsor Congress Elementary School, so students won't have to worry about getting to In The Image for their fittings. All 194 Congress Elementary School students will be receiving new shoes in the fall thanks to a $3,000 donation from the church.
Outside of Grand Rapids Public Schools, In the Image provides shoes to children in Kentwood, Wyoming and Godfrey-Lee Schools. If you'd like to contact In the Image or help with their SHOES program, they're located at 1823 S. Division and you can find them online at www.intheimage.org.
