GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) - David L. Carrier is our Ask The Expert for estate planning and he stops by regularly to share his best lessons for planning for your future. According to David's philosophy, if you plan well, you will get what you and your family deserve.
Lesson one: Have a will made while you're still alive. It can be a scary thing to think about, but having a will already done means you have a legal and genuine document to make sure your estate goes exactly where and to whom you want it to.
Lesson two: If you want to give your child estate or trust fund money, wait until they are old enough to handle the responsibility of receiving a large sum of money.
Lesson three: Keep up-to-date and pay your taxes! If you pass away and still owe money to the federal government, they will take what belongs to them. Your accountant will not be able to do anything about it, and your spouse, family, or other loved ones will not receive it.
Lesson four: If you pass away, your accountant will not be able to fix all your estate and financial problems, so take care of it today. Attend one of David L. Carrier's Free Life Plan Workshops where all your questions or concerns are encouraged and answered.
