KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - Children have started an average of 56,300 fires over a four-year period, according to fire officials and safety experts and now West Michigan fire safety organizations are combining forces to help fight juvenile fire setting. The Juvenile Firesetting intervention programs are a proactive, community-wide solution based approach, an important effort to recognize during National Arson Awareness Week.

Michigan State Police has added eight new canine teams and four replacement teams that graduated from the MSP 2013 Basic Canine School Dec. 6.
The bill was drafted after Jessica Heeringa was abducted from her job in April.
