GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) - Guiding Light Mission is a shelter for men in need in Kent County. However, it does not act as a typical rescue mission, or a flop house. The organization has rules, teaches accountability, and responsibility. They expect the men to become contributing members of society. Last year, Guiding Light helped 161 men find full-time employment and sustainable housing and served 72,415 free meals.

The Guiding Light Mission just finished adding a new prayer room and office space to its New Life in Christ Recovery Program area. The remodeled areas will help the staff better serve men from Kent County and other parts of Michigan who are in need. Guiding Light gives all the resources to men that support their social, physical, spiritual, and intellectual needs while providing sustainable solutions to the problem of homelessness while supporting individuals in their personal recovery.
