GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Hop on your bike and head downtown for a fun cycling event benefiting an important cause. The inaugural Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Gran Fondo , a fun, non-competitive cycling event to benefit skin cancer research. Gran Fondo means "Big Ride" in Italian. Gran Fondos are long distance, mass-participation cycling events, not races, that are becoming immensely popular.
The event will take place on June 29, 2013 in downtown Grand Rapids and follow a scenic course, offering 12, 40, and 80 mile loops for riders. All courses will take off from The B.O.B. and will features fuel "superfood" stops along the way compliments of Gilmore Catering. Post-race, those 21 and older can enjoy free admission to a Gran Buffet inside The B.O.B. featuring fresh Michigan products and wine and beer sampling.
