DOUGLAS, Mich. (WOOD) - Beer was once thought of as a man's drink, but more and more women are loving the craft beer trend. Saugatuck Brewing Company is hosting a "Celebration of Women and Craft Beer" on Sunday, May 5 from 2-5 p.m. that is free of charge and just for the ladies.
The event will feature an assortment of featured craft beer experts, information on classic beer styles, ideas for cooking with beer and of course, tastings. Featured speakers include:
Annette May – Beer manager at Merchant's Fine Wine in Dearborn
Amy Sherman – Chef and host of "The Great American Brew Trail"
Liz Crowe – Owner of Wolverine State Brewing Company
Laura Houser – Brewer at Founders Brewing Company
Kati Spayde – Award-winning home brewer and staffer at Siciliano's Market
Dianna Stampfler – President of Promote Michigan and publicist for the Michigan Brewers Guild
A drawing will be held at the end of the afternoon for a variety of Michigan beer related items including two tickets to the popular Summer Beer Festival in Ypsilanti. Event t-shirts and bottled beer will also be for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit, Sylvia's House, an Allegan based non-profit that provides shelter for victims of domestic violence.
