(CNN) - In theaters this weekend, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin take on the mob, and Marlon Wayans parodies horror flicks.

Sean Penn plays Los Angeles mob king Mickey Cohen in "Gangster Squad." He's got politicians and the police under his control, until one group, headed up by Sgt. John O'Mara, dares to take him on. During the battle for power, a member of O'Mara's team falls for Cohen's girlfriend. The love triangle only adds to the drama and danger. Brolin, Gosling, and Emma Stone also star.

Marlon Wayans stars in the comedy "A Haunted House," a parody of "found footage" films like "Paranormal Activity." Malcolm and his girlfriend have just moved into their dream home when she becomes possessed by a demon. He turns to an eclectic cast of characters, including a priest and a team of ghost busters, in an attempt to ward off the evil spirit.
