GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A special thank-you went out Wednesday to the contractors at Hunt/Owen-Ames-Kimball working on the Phase II expansion of the Van Andel Institute.

They set a goal to collect a ton (2,000 pounds) of household items for the WOOD TV8 Christmas in May campaign. They called their project A Ton of Heart.

The official weight and measurement of the donations took place Wednesday morning. The group gathered more than 2,300 pounds of household goods.

The group says this was made possible through support from several of their other construction sites, including Allegan County Probate Court, where 35 pounds of items were collected.
