GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) -- There is a record-setting number of West Michigan families relying on the state to put food on their tables each night.
And a lot of those families have questions.
On Tuesday, 24 Hour News 8 kicked off its series of segments aimed at resolving viewers' concerns about the Kent County Department of Human Services, and what it offers.
We have collected questions for about a month. Nancy Marshall is the acting director of Kent County DHS. She joined 24 Hour News 8 to answer questions live.
"When I lost my benefits, I actually had to go down there, wait in a line for like, an hour and a half. And I didn't even find out my case was closed until I got up to the window to ask if I could speak to my caseworker," said Monica, of Wyoming. "They just said that my case had been closed and that I couldn't talk to my caseworker because I needed to make an appointment.
"But my concern was, how can I make an appointment when nobody will return my call? It feels almost like they don't care. But I understand, you know, Michigan is having a hard time. You know, everyone needs help. But my whole thing is a little communication is better than no communication. Just return my call."
To hear Marshall's answer to Monica's question and many more, watch the video. If you have a question, e-mail us at yourmoney@woodtv.com . A DHS representative will be in the newsroom every Tuesday for the rest of the month answering questions.
We forward your e-mails directly to DHS, as well.
