Whitecaps seek fans' food menu ideas

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WOOD) - The West Michigan Whitecaps are soliciting ideas for new food items to be served at Fifth Third Ballpark this season.

Fans can submit their ideas regarding what new food items they would like to see served.

This is the fourth year that food ideas submitted by fans will find their way onto the Fifth Third Ballpark menu. The first year, a couple of sandwiches -- the Cudighi Yooper Sandwich and the Declaration of Indigestion -- made the cut. The second year, the fans took a different approach with the ultra healthy Chicks with Sticks. Last year, the oversized Westside Po' Boy came out as the fans' champion.

"We love food! As part of the Whitecaps experience we enjoy having a wide variety of choices and we want fans to weigh-in on the things they'd like to see here. It's ballpark tradition to grab a dog or a burger but sometimes you just want something different. That's why we offer things from wraps and salads to the Fifth Third Burger," Whitecaps President Scott Lane said in a news release.

Submissions will be taken through Jan. 31. They can be made through the Whitecaps' Facebook page, Twitter account (@wmwhitecaps), or via email at playball@whitecapsbaseball.com. All submissions should be accompanied with a complete description and a picture, if possible.

The food idea submissions will be whittled down to approximately 10 finalists. Starting Feb. 19, fans will be able to vote for their choice for the new 2013 concessions item. Voting will take place on the Whitecaps' website, www.whitecapsbaseball.com, and will end March 4. The winning entry will be on the menu for all fans to enjoy.

"There are many creative foodies out there so we are anxious to see their ideas," said Whitecaps Director of Marketing Mickey Graham.

The Whitecaps open the 2013 home season on April 4 against the Dayton Dragon at 6:35 p.m. Season and group tickets are now on sale; individual tickets for the Whitecaps' 20th season will go on sale later this month. Complete ticket information, including season and group ticket prices and perks, is available at www.whitecapsbaseball.com.
