COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WOOD) - Entering their 18th season, the West Michigan Whitecaps revealed a few new logos for the team to wear and the fans to buy.
The new logo for the road caps incorporates the Olde English font of the Whitecaps' parent club, the Detroit Tigers, and adds orange into the color scheme. The signature blue wave is underneath the letters.
The team's familiar wave-with baseball design will now sport a tiger's tail in the wave. A separate tiger tail design aimed at young fans will be available at the retail sites but will not be used on a player's uniform.
"I'm excited about these new logos," Whitecaps president Scott Lane said in a statement. "They strengthen the Whitecaps' identity with the Detroit Tigers in a very literal way for our fans, who are also Tigers fans. I think the logos are a little more edgy and youthful and will appeal to the younger generation of fans."
The first game of the 2013 season is a home game on Thursday, April 4 against the Dayton Dragons.
