GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) -- Mike Kooreman wanted to be an Olympian so much, he chased the dream through three Olympic trials.
It wasn't until he retired that he is finally realizing the dream.
Kooreman grew up with speedskating, and learned to skate with the West Michigan Speedskating Club. He turned into one of the United States' best short-track skaters. But the Olympic Games eluded him.
After missing out on the Torino Games, he retired, and eventually turned to coaching. Now, he's in Vancouver -- working as an assistant coach and team leader for the long-track team.
In a recent visit with Kooreman in Salt Lake City, he predicted great things for Team USA.
To hear from him, watch the video.
