WHISTLER, British Columbia (WOOD) -- A West Michigan man's fifth attempt at a gold medal resulted in a disappointing 13th place Wednesday night.
Muskegon-native Mark Grimmette and teammate Brian Martin finished in 13th, 1.3 seconds out of gold. Austrian brothers Andreas and Wolfgang Linger have won their second consecutive Olympic gold medal in doubles luge.
Family and friends held a watch party in Muskegon Wednesday night to view Mark Grimmette compete in the men's double luge.
24 Hour News 8 spoke with Mark's mother, Jean Van Lente, about the experience and the Vancouver Games so far.
After nearly missing the cut for the 2010 Olympic squad upon struggling during this season's World Cup, Grimmette, a five-time Olympian, was named the American flagbearer for Friday's Opening Ceremony.
Grimmette and Martin have won silver and bronze in previous Olympics.
