DETROIT, Mich. (WOOD) - Muskegon native Justin Abdelkader signed a four-year, $7.2 million contract extension with the Detroit Red Wings, the club announced Friday.
Abdelkader, 25, had a career best 22 points last season, including eight goals. He spent two seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins after a college career at Michigan State University.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The Red Wings have also signed defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo to a two-year, $5 million deal.
The 29-year-old Colaiacovo was a free agent after appearing in 370 games in nine NHL seasons for the Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues. He had two goals and 17 assists in 64 games for the Blues in 2011-12.
