CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Cavaliers overcame a horrendous start to beat the Toronto Raptors 103-92 last night. The Cavs played without injured All-Star Kyrie Irving for the second straight game. Rookie Dion Waiters scored 23 points and Shaun Livingston added 15 for Cleveland.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 14-6 in exhibition baseball yesterday. Arizona's Brandon McCarthy methodically struck out four in two innings in his first game since a horrific head injury in September. Reds ace Johnny Cueto went two innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits with a strikeout and a walk.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — The Seattle Mariners beat the Cleveland Indians 5-1 yesterday. Indians starter Brett Myers worked three innings. He allowed a single and got seven ground-ball outs before Carlos Peguero connected in the third. The game was delayed for 5 minutes in the eighth by a false alarm. Fans cleared the stands when an automatic alarm beeped loudly. The scoreboard soon flashed: "False Alarm."

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a broken right foot. The Blue Jackets have placed him on injured reserve retroactive to February 24th. Wisniewski was injured when he was struck by a shot during Sunday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Columbus Crew has signed midfielders Konrad Warzycha and Shawn Sloan, as well as defender Kyle Hyland. The signings give the Crew 29 players heading into the MLS season, which begins on the road Saturday at Chivas USA. Warzycha is the son of Crew head coach Robert Warzycha.

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Akron extended its winning streak to 19 games, the nation's longest this season, by defeating Ohio 88-81 in overtime last night. Demetrius Treadwell scored 21 points and Jake Kretzer came off the bench with a career-high 19. The Zips overcame a 21-3 first-half Ohio run that put them in a 34-16 hole.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Dayton won its first Atlantic 10 Conference road game 88-67 at Charlotte last night. Devin Oliver had 16 points and 11 rebounds off the bench to help with the win. Josh Benson and Kevin Dillard added 15 points each, Vee Sanford had 13 and Dyshawn Pierre had 12 for the Flyers.

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Western Michigan defeated Toledo 65-62 last night. The victory gave the Broncos sole possession of first place in the Mid-American Conference's West Division, breaking a tie with the Rockets. Reese Holliday scored 16 points, Julius Brown 15 and Rian Pearson 14 for Toledo.
