NEW YORK (AP) — Golden State guard Stephen (STEH'-fen) Curry scored an NBA season-high 54 points Wednesday night, but the Warriors still lost to the Knicks 109-105 in New York. Curry was 18 of 28 from the field and finished one shy of the NBA record with 11 3-pointers. Carmelo Anthony scored 35 points. J.R. Smith hit the tiebreaking shot with 1:10 left to lift the Knicks.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The San Antonio Spurs had an 18-game home winning streak until Jermaine O'Neal scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Phoenix Suns past the Spurs 105-101 in overtime. Goran Dragic (DRAH'-gihch) had 13 points and 13 assists as the Suns beat the Spurs for the first time in seven tries. The Spurs shot 0-for-10 from the field in overtime and saw their lead in the Western Conference cut to two games over Oklahoma City.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Russell Westbrook scored 29 points and Kevin Durant had a triple-double as the Oklahoma City Thunder crushed New Orleans 119-74. Durant finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for the Thunder, who outscored the Hornets 57-29 in the second half and rested the starters in the final period. The win leaves the Thunder 42-15 overall, and 26-4 at home.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Fourth-ranked Michigan blew a 15-point lead in the second half and lost at Penn State 84-78. Jermaine Marshall hit six of Penn State's season-high 10 three-pointers and scored 19 of his game-high 25 points after intermission to lead the Nittany Lions to their first Big Ten victory since last season. Penn State had dropped 18 straight conference games before stunning the Wolverines.
TORONTO (AP) — The Montreal Canadiens have a three-point lead in the NHL's Eastern Conference standings after scoring three unanswered goals in the third period of a 5-2 win at Toronto. Brendan Gallagher, Max Pacioretty (pash-uh-RET'-ee) and Brian Gionta (jee-AHN'-tah) scored in the last 11 minutes as the Canadiens improved to 13-4-3. Pacioretty finished with two goals and David Desharnais (day-ahr-NAY') had two assists.
