The Detroit Free Press is reporting Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland has not offered a contract to Ty Conklin.
Conklin, 33, will be an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday.
So that means Jimmy Howard is in as the team's backup goaltender.
Howard, 25, is out of minor-league options after spending four seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Wings' AHL affiliate. He is coming off his best season, with a 2.54 goals-against and a .916 save percentage in 45 games. His numbers were 2.41 and a .900 in 10 playoff games. He is signed through 2011 and is due to make $717,700 next season.
Conklin earned $750,000 this past season. He was 25-11-2 with a 2.51 goals-against average, a .909 save percentage and six shutouts in 40 games.
Chris Osgood, 36, will remain as the Wings' starting goalie.
