GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - While he played it down like it was any other Sunday, Super Bowl XLVIIÂ meant more than that to Wyoming resident Dino Paganelli.
By day, he works part-time at Wyoming High School as a gym and health teacher. But on the weekends, Paganelli is in the end zone at an NFL game somewhere around the National Football League. After six years of officiating, Paganelli was called upon to be the back judge in this year's Super Bowl. It's a job that brings a family story full circle.
He is the youngest of three brothers that officiate in the NFL. It all started with their father, Carl Paganelli Sr. He led the way for the boys -- Dino, Carl Jr. and Perry -- to learn the game and the rules of football. Carl Jr. has seen himself in three Super Bowls, and Perry, too, has been in the striped shirt for the sport's biggest game.
The experience of this game, though, carries a weight unlike any other for Dino. A year and a half ago, Dino and his three children lost their wife and mother, Christy, to a battle with cancer. He and the kids remembered her during the last weekend's Super Bowl weekend in New Orleans with heavy hearts, but enjoyed every minute because they knew it would be what she wanted.
Watch the video above to hear firsthand how Super Bowl week went for Dino Paganelli.
