GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Both Western Michigan University and Grand Valley State University were on the winning end of home opening games Saturday night.

Western Michigan entertained the Panthers from Eastern Illinois in front of their home crowd at Waldo Stadium.

Star Quarterback Alex Carder threw for 364 yards and five touchdowns on 29/30 passing. After last week's loss to Illinois, Carder shoulder the blame for the Broncos only putting 7 points on the board in a 24-7 loss. Saturday nights game was a different story as the Broncos rolled the Panthers 52-21 to improve to 1-1 on the season.

In Allendale the Lakers broke in the new turf at Lubbers Stadium. After work was finished on the field, the team did some serious work against Notre Dame College from Ohio. Grand Valley scored 48 points in the first half and put up the second most points in school history in a 83-46 win.

Heath Parling threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns. The Lakers are now 2-0 on the year.
