GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Tony Annese accepted the head football coaching position at Ferris State, leaving the GRCC squad after three seasons.
Annese, who came to GRCC from a championship-caliber team at Muskegon High School, moves up to a Division 2 NCAA program. At GRCC, he guided the Raiders to a record of 30-4 and won two National Junior College Athletic Association championships. This year his team was 11-0.
By contrast,the Bulldogs this season finished 6-5.
"We're excited to welcome Tony to Ferris State University and the Big Rapids community," FSU Athletic Director Perk Weisenburger said in a statement. "He clearly stood out in our search and is an outstanding teacher and coach with the ability to make a immediate impact on our program."
In his statement, Annese, 50, said, "I'm excited and humbled about the opportunity to coach Division II football at Ferris State. ... We have a lot of work in front of us, but I'm looking forward to developing many new relationships and building opportunities to be successful."
