GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Grand Rapids native boxer Floyd Mayweather has bet almost $3 million that the Michigan football team will beat the 14-point spread in its season opener against favored Alabama.
Reports indicate that the boxer, whose nickname is "Money," placed bets at nine different Las Vegas sportsbooks, according to USA Today.
Michigan starts the season ranked No. 8 while Alabama is ranked No. 2.
Mayweather was the highest-paid athlete in the world in 2011, according to Forbes. He was recently released two months into a three-month jail sentence for domestic violence.
The game will be Saturday at 8 p.m. ET at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
According to the Cowboys Stadium website, it will be the fourth matchup between the programs. Michigan leads the series 2-1.
