ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WOOD) - University of Michigan football players will wear a special white road jersey for their appearance in the 2012 Sugar Bowl, according to a release from the program.

Michigan will face off against Virginia Tech on Jan. 3, 2012 at the Superdome in New Orleans.

The jersey, according to the release, features the Allstate Sugar Bowl logo on the upper left chest and the traditional Michigan block M on the upper right chest.

“We met with our seniors and showed them some concepts that were proposed by Adidas and the mock-up is what they chose,” said head coach Brady Hoke in the release. “This is a something the players enjoy and we thought it would be a nice way to commemorate our appearance in the Sugar Bowl.”

Michigan players also decided to wear a gray face mask under the traditional winged helmet. The look was popular in the late 1960s and resurrected for the Under the Lights game against Notre Dame in September.

Replicas will be sold at the MDen and other retail stores.
