GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Former defensive coordinator for the Grand Valley State Lakers -- Matt Mitchell -- is now the head coach.
He succeeds Chuck Martin, who left Allendale to join former GVSU coach Brian Kelly at Notre Dame.

Before coming to GVSU six years ago, Mitchell was an assistant coach at Wartburg College in Iowa. He's also a certified strength and conditioning coach and the athletic director's son-in-law.
During his college playing career, Mitchell was two-time first-team all-Midwest Conference defensive lineman at Cornell College in Iowa.
