ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder nearly took a sneaker to the face while sitting courtside at the North Carolina State-Michigan basketball game.
A Detroit Free Press photo shows the Wolverines' Mitch McGary careening out of bounds and into the front row with Snyder and his wife, Sue, late in the second half Tuesday night at Crisler Center.
Snyder told Detroit's WWJ-AM on Wednesday that McGary's foot came "within an inch or so" of his head.
Snyder quipped: "That's a big shoe when you get that close."
No. 3 Michigan held off a late rally by the No. 18 Wolfpack in a 79-72 win. The Ann Arbor school is the governor's alma mater, and he called the game "a great win." He says hustle shown by players like McGary helped the Wolverines.
