ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Michigan point guard Trey Burke was named Big Ten player of the year by both a media panel and league coaches.

Burke and Indiana's Victor Oladipo are also considered national player of the year candidates.

The media's All-Big Ten first team is Burke, Oladipo, Cody Zeller of Indiana and Aaron Craft and Deshaun Thomas of Ohio State. The coaches went with almost the same exact group, except Michigan's Tim Hardaway Jr. replaced Craft.

Both the media and the coaches named Gary Harris of Michigan State freshman of the year and Bo Ryan of Wisconsin coach of the year.

Oladipo was named defensive player of the year by the coaches.

Sports Illustrated gave Burke its national Player of the Year award.

Marcus Smart from Oklahoma State, Doug McDermott from Creighton, Kelly Olynyk from Gonzaga, and Zeller joined Burke on Sports Illustrated’s All-America team.

Though Oladipo was one of the four regional SI covers, he was not named to the All-America team.

Oladipo was named the national player of the year by the Sporting News last week.

Burke is averaging 19.2 points, 6.7 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game, and is shooting 40 percent from 3-point range.

He scored at least 15 points in every Big Ten game this year and was named a first-team U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-America on Monday.

Burke is only the second Wolverine ever to be a national player of the year, joining Cazzie Russell, who swept the awards in 1966.

Miami (Fla.)'s Jim Larranaga was named the national coach of the year by SI. His team won the ACC championship.
