Both Tigers, Giants leaders graduated from MSU

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - There is a certain Spartan touch to this year's World Series between the Tigers and Giants.

The squads tending the turf at Comerica Park in Detroit and AT&T Park in San Francisco are led by Michigan State University graduates.

Heather Nabozny has been Detroit's head groundskeeper since 1999 at the old Tiger Stadium. She graduated in 1993.

Greg Elliott graduated in 2002 from the school's sports and commercial turfgrass program. He's been head groundskeeper in San Francisco for five seasons.

Nabozny says having the spotlight on both fields "during the World Series speaks volumes of the MSU turf management program."

Michigan State turfgrass faculty and students have worked on several Olympic facilities and created the indoor portable athletic field for the 1994 World Cup at the Pontiac Silverdome.
