Detroit dolled up for the World Series

DETROIT (WOOD) - Motown is getting ready to welcome the World Series.

The Tigers flew back to Detroit early Friday morning after what proved to be their most disappointing road trip of the season. But back on their home field, some players told 24 Hour News 8 Friday they are ready to turn the Series in their favor.

If optimism and attitude are indicators, the Tigers will get three wins on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The excitement is palpable all over the city.

"It's an unbelievable atmosphere," said Tigers outfielder Austin Jackson at a press conference Friday.

"It's a lot of fun playing here," agreed catcher Alex Avila.

Every time a Detroit team makes it to a championship, a giant jersey goes up on the statue outside the city county building. The Renaissance Center, one of Detroit's most recognizable buildings, has received the Tigers treatment. In fact, most of the city's skyscrapers will be lit up for the duration of the homestand.

And it's not just the Spirit of Detroit being lifted: The three-game stand is expected to bring about $26 million to the city.

Tigers fans can still find tickets, but they're not cheap. It will cost you about $10,000 for a seat right behind the plate.

The good news, however, is that prices for standing-room only have dropped since Wednesday, according to StubHub.

Hotel rooms in the city are few and far between. Travel websites indicate that game-goers will have the best chance at finding a room in a Detroit suburb.

Additionally, Lions management has issued an alert regarding parking at Ford Field on Sunday:

"Fans attending Sunday's game vs. Seattle will be required to vacate Olympia Development lots - including Lions-Tigers Garage, Lot 4 and Lot 5 - immediately following the football game to accommodate ticket holders for the Tigers' game that evening. For more information, contact the Detroit Lions Media Relations department."

The Associated Press is reporting that police in Detroit have a plan to make sure the area around Comerica Park is safe for the thousands of baseball fans coming downtown to watch the World Series. But city officials are not tipping their hand on what they're going to do.

Interim Police Chief Chester Logan told reporters Friday that more than 20 law enforcement agencies will work with his officers when the Tigers host the San Francisco Giants beginning Saturday in Detroit for game 3 of the best-of-seven series.

Logan said "close to 100,000 people" will be downtown Sunday for the Detroit Lions afternoon football game at Ford Field and game 4 of the World Series that night.

He also said no officers would be pulled from Detroit neighborhoods for patrols in and around downtown.
