DETROIT (AP) - Pitcher Rick Porcello has been named the Detroit Tigers' rookie of the year.

The 20-year-old right-hander was picked Thursday by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters' Association.

Porcello led all American League rookies with 14 wins in 2009. The Morristown, N.J., native notched a 3.96 ERA and 89 strikeouts in his first season.

The team says Porcello's 14 victories are the most ever by a Tigers pitcher 20 years old or younger.

Porcello will be presented with the award before a Tigers home game next year.

The prize has been awarded by the broadcasters' association since 1969.
