Maggs, Guillen likely gone from Tigers

Back-up catcher a priority, GM Dombrowski said

DETROIT (AP) - Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski says it is highly unlikely free agents Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen will be back next season.

Dombrowski said Tuesday that he would like to add a second or third baseman by signing a veteran or trading for one. A right-handed catcher will be on the roster to give Alex Avila a break and make designated hitter Victor Martinez a third option behind the plate.

The Tigers would like to have middle infielder Ramon Santiago back, but he might make more money elsewhere in an everyday role. Dombrowski doubts he'll re-sign pitcher Brad Penny; is open to bringing back free agent third baseman Wilson Betemit later in the offseason; and says pitcher Joel Zumaya can return as a non-roster invitee.
