DETROIT (AP) - Flint Beecher guard Monte Morris has been named Michigan's Mr. Basketball.

The Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan announced the award Monday.

Morris has signed to play at Iowa State next season.

The 6-foot-1 guard won a closely contested race for the coveted award. Morris had 2,130 points in voting, beating out Derrick Walton Jr. of Harper Woods Chandler Park by 44 points and Rochester's James Young by 100. Walton had the most first-place votes and has signed to play for Michigan.

Young is headed to Kentucky.

Detroit Pershing's Kahlil Felder finished fourth and Dontel Highsmith of Dowagiac was fifth.

Morris averaged 23 points this season. He led the team in scoring, assists and steals in each of his four years.

Michigan State had signed the four previous Mr. Basketball winners.
