DEWITT, Mich. (WOOD) - Jordyn Wieber, 16, is the best gymnast in the state. But that's not enough for the DeWitt High School junior.

She has Olympic gold in her sights.

"I've dreamed about it since I was little -- ever since I started gymnastics," said Wieber. "Dreamed about going to the Olympics and doing well."

And the chance to compete in the Summer 2012 Olympics in London isn't a pipe dream for Wieber -- not after her performance at the World Championships in Tokyo in October.

In her first international competition at the senior level, Wieber won the gold in the all-around.

"We've had Jordyn since she was 4 years old. People asked, 'How soon did you know you had a world champion?' I say, 'We knew we had a world champion when she won the world championship,'" said Wieber's coach John Geddert.

But Wieber has had to work hard to achieve the things she has.

Each day before and after school, Wieber practices at Geddert's Twistars gymnastics club in Lansing.

"It takes a lot of commitment," said Wieber. "I have to be in the gym every single day. Some days, I practice five hours. Some days, seven."

"She really wants to maximize her God-given talent," said Geddert. "She's not satisfied until things are perfect."

"Just trying to get every little bit of hard work out of myself that I can," said Wieber.
